Context Matters

Harmony, Scripture, and Jazz

Episode Summary

In part 1 of the conversation with Dr. Glanville, we begin to talk about his new book Improvising Church. Dr. Glanville grew up in Australia, is an accomplished jazz pianist - who then became a pastor, and OT scholar, and now an associate professor of pastoral theology at Regent College, Vancouver, while still belonging to a jazz trio that has been playing together in Vancouver for seven years.

Episode Notes

Dr. Mark Glanville joins me from his piano to talk about his new book Improvising Church: Scripture as the Source of Harmony, Rhythm, and Soul. What is it about jazz and scripture that make them natural conversation partners regarding the modern church? Is there a way to create churches that are characterized by being leader-full, where the imagination, the energy, and the thoughtfulness goes beyond the capacity of any one leader?
